<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interior permanent magnet motor that has equal numbers of permanent magnets and magnetic poles and also obtains an improvement in performance. <P>SOLUTION: An interior permanent magnet motor includes a rotor core 7 and a rotor 6. The rotor core 7 has a plurality of permanent magnet housing holes 8 formed along a direction of a rotating shaft 9. The rotor 6 has permanent magnets 10 that are inserted into the respective permanent magnet housing holes 8 in such a manner that, in a plane perpendicular to the rotating shaft 9, adjacent pairs of the permanent magnets 10 in a circumferential direction of the rotor 6 have respective longitudinal end surfaces of the same polarity facing each other. The permanent magnet housing holes 8 are equal in number to magnet poles. In a plane perpendicular to the rotating shaft 9, the permanent magnet housing holes 8 are tilted on a rotor outer edge side 8a in an identical circumferential direction relative to a radial direction, in a direction in which respective longitudinal surfaces of all the permanent magnet housing holes 8 extend from an inner edge side to an outer edge side of the rotor 6 and within a range where the adjacent pairs of the permanent magnet housing holes 8 do not interfere with one another. Thus, the permanent magnet housing holes 8 are shaped in such a manner as to allow an increase in amount of permanent magnets.
