<p>The present invention provides: a liquid crystal display device which is capable of suppressing the occurrence of a white spot, while suppressing deterioration in display characteristics such as decrease in the aperture ratio and decrease in the contrast ratio; and a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device. The present invention specifically provides a liquid crystal display device which is provided with a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal layer that is held between the pair of substrates. The liquid crystal display device is characterized in that: the liquid crystal layer has negative dielectric anisotropy; at least one of the pair of substrates has an electrode, an alignment film that vertically aligns adjacent liquid crystal molecules, and a polymer layer that is formed on a part of the liquid crystal layer-side main surface of the alignment film by polymerizing 1,6-dimethacryloxy phenanthrene or 3,6-dimethacryloxy phenanthrene and controls the alignment of adjacent liquid crystal molecules; the liquid crystal display device has a plurality of pixels each of which is provided with a first alignment region where the alignment film and liquid crystal molecules are in contact with each other and a second alignment region where the polymer layer and liquid crystal molecules are in contact with each other; and the first alignment region and the second alignment region have threshold voltages different from each other.</p> |
