<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retardation compensation element and a method for manufacturing a retardation compensation element capable of compensating retardation of a liquid crystal display device in a wide range. <P>SOLUTION: The retardation compensation element includes a layer 62 having a plurality of holes 62b formed by obliquely irradiating an inorganic film 62a with at least one of an ion beam, atomic beam, molecular beam and plasma beam, the holes having a longitudinal direction obliquely intersecting the surface 62s of the inorganic film 62a and along the irradiation direction D of the beam. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
