The present invention relates to compositions and methods useful for regulating gastric emptying by affecting contraction of the gastric pump. The present invention also relates to compositions and methods useful for restraining energy intake by inducing and/or increasing gastric emptying. Therefore, the present invention provides insight into the mechanisms that regulate gastric emptying and presents a platform for treating a subject having a disease or disorder that cam be alleviated, at least in part, by regulation of gastric emptying.
