The purpose of the present invention is to provide a medical material that is safe for living organisms, has high biocompatibility and is useful for promoting cell differentiation. In the present invention, a medical material for promoting cell differentiation is manufactured by incorporating a polyamino acid as a primary component and further incorporating into the polyamino acid at least an amino acid residue selected from among a group consisting of an alanine residue, a valine residue, a leucine residue, an isoleucine residue, a phenylalanine residue, a glycine residue, a glutamine residue, an aspartic acid residue optionally having a protecting group in the side chain thereof, a tyrosine residue optionally having a protecting group in the side chain thereof, a tryptophan residue optionally having a protecting group in the side chain thereof, a lysine residue optionally having a protecting group in the side chain thereof, and a glutamic acid residue optionally having a protecting group in the side chain thereof.
