PURPOSE: A portable terminal and subject motion detecting method using the same are provided to detect the motion of a portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A terminal motion detector(174) detects the movement of a portable terminal based on the change of the luminance information of a first frame of an inputted second frame. A object motion detecting unit(176) detects the motion of the subject. A control signal generator(178) converts the motion of the detected subject as a control signal of an application.
