<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a socket compatible with both normal- and high-voltage plugs. <P>SOLUTION: The socket has a substantially cylindrical shape having a plug connection port 20 at one end where a plug can be inserted. A penetration groove 53 is formed on an inner peripheral face of the plug connection port 20. In the groove, a locking ball 54 can be radially inserted and removed, the locking ball 54 being fitted to a recess 15 formed on an outer circumferential face of a base end part 12A of a plug 10 to be inserted into the socket 1 through the plug connection port 20. Further, an annular groove 65 is formed on an inner periphery of the socket close to the plug connection port 20, at a position facing a large-diameter part 17 of the plug 10 when the plug 10 is inserted, the large-diameter part 17 adjoining to the recess 15 of the base end part 12A of the plug 10 and having an outer diameter substantially equal to the inner diameter of the plug connection port 20.
