The method involves detecting objects (80, 80', 80'') in environments (70, 72, 74) of a vehicle (10) by comparison of spacing of the objects or by acquisition of Doppler shift. Movement of the objects is detected relative to the vehicle or a projected roadway of the vehicle by pulse echo method and by signals of respective sensors (20-28). A lock is activated when the detected object movement is directed toward the vehicle or the roadway. The sensors or the signals are utilized for lateral scanning of the environment during automatic or semi automatic parking process. The sensors are selected from a group consisting of an ultrasonic sensor, a microwave sensor and a light detection and ranging (LIDAR) sensor. An independent claim is also included for an interlocking control system comprising an input interface for receiving signals of a sensor.
