The engine (1) has a set of cylinders (2) with an unfired cylinder (2a) that is operated as a compressor (5). An intake side (13) of the unfired cylinder is connected to an exhaust system (4) between an exhaust manifold (10) and an exhaust gas turbine (12). An exhaust side (15) of the unfired cylinder is connected to an intake system (3) between the compressor and an intake manifold (8). An exhaust gas recirculating cooler (17) is arranged between the exhaust side of the unfired cylinder and the intake system. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an internal combustion engine. |
