PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device, an image display system, and an image display method capable of displaying a bright stereoscopic image.

SOLUTION: An image display device 1 includes: a light source unit turning on or off in response to control; a spatial optical modulation element for modulating light from the light source unit; a control unit 2 for switching between a left eye image and a right eye image alternately and lighting up the light source unit to display the left eye image or the right eye image; and a control unit 2 which starts opening of a left eye shutter of spectacles earlier than lighting of the light source unit when the left eye image is displayed, and starts opening of a right eye shutter of spectacles earlier than the lighting of the light source unit when the right eye image is displayed.
