<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for asynchronous communication of data on a single conductor. <P>SOLUTION: The invention relates to the asynchronous communication of data in complex integrated systems present inside integrated circuit chips or between integrated circuit chips, for example in a compact stack of chips. According to the invention, the transmission is done on a single exchange conductor. The data is transmitted on a conductor C<SB POS="POST">ech</SB>in the form of at least three levels of potential, the first level (0) representing a first value of a transmission data item, the second level (Vdd) representing a second value of the transmission data item, and the third level (Vmed) representing an inactive level. An acknowledgment signal is transmitted onto the same exchange conductor as the data.
