The device (1) has a base body (2) forming a part of a center console of a motor car, and a retaining recess (20) integrally formed with the base body. A retainer (3) is swingably supported relative to the base body over two pivot units (4a, 4b), so that the retainer is pivoted from a non-usage position into a usage position. One of the pivot units comprises an overload protector, which is formed so that the overload protector has resistance against rotation of the retainer when the overload protector reaches the usage position of the retainer.
