Provided is a method for dwarfing a chestnut tree and renewing fruiting maternal branches thereof, said method comprising: planting a chestnut seedling in organic soil; allowing the trunk of the seedling to sufficiently absorb sunlight and nutrients and water contained in the organic soil to grow multiple branches thereon; while allowing vigorous growth of the trunk, forming gnarls in the base part of the individual branches; and obtaining vegetative branches and fruiting maternal branches developing from all of the gnarls to thereby give large and high quality chestnuts. While allowing the growth of vegetative branches (3) of a seedling (1), the vegetative branches (3) are cut at the base while leaving two branches. Thus, gnarls (7) are formed at the base part of all branches and vigorous fruiting maternal branches (4) and vegetative branches (3) develop, which accelerates the ripening of strobilaceous fruits. As a result, large and high quality chestnuts are produced.
