1,008,487. Turbine and like blade mounting. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. Dec. 12, 1963. [Dec. 14, 1962], No. 49113/63. Heading FIT. A method of fastening blades in a rotor of a turbine or like machine comprises inserting a heat resisting material which is softer than the material of the blade root at least into the gaps between the load bearing surfaces of the blade roots and the corresponding part of the rotor, and causing or permitting the heat resisting material to expand or tend to expand after insertion to hold the blades fast with the rotor. The heat resisting material may be iron dust which is oxidised and expanded by heating or chemical means, or copper, nickel or a copper/nickel alloy. The blade and packing material may, alternatively, be shrunk by cooling prior to insertion. The packing material may be liquid metal injected into the gap between the blade root and rotor and oxidised after solidification. The construction damps blade vibrations. |
