An apparatus suitable for spraying, a uniform layer of tobacco powder &c. onto a moving web 18 comprises a compressed air supply 4 adapted to entrain powder 2 from a hopper 1 into a conduit 3, and a rotor 11 designed to distribute the powder from the conduit 3 uniformly between a series of spray pipes 14 of substantially equal length evenly spaced across the web. The outlet of each pipe 14 is provided with a spreader plate 20 and a groove 12 in the rotor connects the conduit 3 to each pipe in turn. A closing device in the form of a screw 5 assists the entry of the powder into the conduit 3. The conical rotor may be replaced by a rotating vane or spout.</p> |
