<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of interference in radio communication and to reduce consumption of electric power. <P>SOLUTION: This user checking system for vehicle is provided with a portable machine 10 memorizing user's ID and an on-vehicle device having a radio communication means 20 to check a user by radio communication with the portable machine in the on-vehicle device. The on-vehicle device has a first controlling means 30 and a second controlling means 40 having larger amount of consumption of electric power when compared with the first controlling means. When a predetermined vehicle stops, the first controlling means controls the radio communication means to transmit a detection signal to the portable machine periodically and checks the user based on a received signal of the radio communication means to recognize an error.
