A fluid flow regulator has a tangential inlet to a circular section chamber which contains an internal member of circular cross-section and is closed at one end and has a concentric outlet from the other end whereby the resistance to fluid flow increases as, with increasing speed of fluid flow, the fluid medium is forced away from the outlet as a result of centrifugal force. The chamber may comprise a tangential inlet (9) and a concentric outlet (10) opposite a conical (11) or frustro conical insert Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), or a conical chamber (19) may contain an axially adjustable conical insert member (22) Fig. 3 (not shown). Fluid may also pass to the outlet around channels formed by a pair of spaced concentric cylinders, via spaced tangential passages through the walls thereof Fig. 4 (not shown) and, with contacting cylinders (36) and (37) Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) the smaller (37) may project through the chamber wall (38) with the fluid resistance adjustable upon the rotation thereof to vary the cross section of the passages between the cylinders. In further embodiments, fluid flow resistance may be raised by screwing a hollow cylinder Fig. 7 (not shown) through the outlet to project down into the chamber interior, or by the adjustment of a hollow screw (55) with radial openings therefrom Fig. 8 (not shown); alternatively, the surface of the screw may be longitudinally grooved Fig. 9 (not shown) or the outlet may comprise a cylindrical extension of the end wall with the cross-section of longitudinal slots at the extremity thereof adjusted by a screwed-on cap Fig. 10 (not shown).</p> |
