The invention is related to electric engines in general and particularly to a system and method for detecting switch faults caused by the change of position in the bars of the switch due to the centrifugal force exerted thereon upon being exposed to high speed rotations, where the faults are determined by a measurement unit consisting in a structure of insulating material fixed at a predetermined distance from the bars of the test switch, avoiding the physical contact therebetween while rotating. The determination of the measurement unit is based on an electric signal relative to the separation distance between the bars of the switch, and an optic signal relative to the beginning or end of the measurement of the switch bars arrangement. The detection method comprises the following steps: determining the rotation speed of the test switch, determining the measurement parameters of the test switch, processing and conditioning the resulting signals, comparing the test values to the previo usly stored values, displaying the test results and determining the fault. |
