The device (7) has a supply system comprising a urea tank (4) and urea injection unit (3) supplying ammonia to an exhaust line (2). A catalytic denitrification system (6) is arranged in the exhaust line, where the denitrification system has a non-exchanged and slightly exchanged acid zeolite that is utilized as a catalyst. The urea injection unit injects urea in the exhaust line and is arranged in upstream of the denitrification system. A nitrogen oxide and ammonia detection unit (9) is arranged in the exhaust line in downstream of the denitrification system. An independent claim is also included for a method for treating exhaust gas containing nitrogen oxides.
