Biobarrier to retard the spreading of radionuclides from the ground radwaste storage

PURPOSE: A bio-barrier is provided to reduce mobility of a radioactive material diffused to the soil, thereby blocking diffusion of the radioactive material to a surrounding ecosystem. CONSTITUTION: A limestone layer(1) has a thickness of 5 to 10 cm. A microorganism layer(2) includes iron-reducing bacteria. The microorganism layer is comprised of shewanella and geobacter. A phosphate layer is comprised of an apatite mineral or a rock and a hydroxyapatite mineral. A bio-barrier additionally includes one or more microorganism layers on the lower part of the phosphate layer.
