摘要
1,101,812. Milling; making finned tubing; corrugating. HUDSON ENGINEERING CORPORATION. 3 Feb., 1965 [20 Oct., 1964], No. 38244/67. Divided out of 1,101,811. Headings B3A, B3B, B3E and B3K. [Also in Division F4] A machine for sawing slits in fins on tubing 2 comprises a number of saws 46 rotating in planes parallel to the path of movement of the tubing and means for adjusting the ratio of the feed speed of the tubing to the rotary speed of the saws. The tubing is fed by belt conveyers 21, 29 driven through belt gearing by a motor 13 controlled by a rheostat 14. Belts 22, 23 and 27, 28 engage the tubing to prevent rotation thereof. (In a modification, the tubing 2a, Fig. 3, is fed by a cable 64 and a variable-speed motor 71). As the tubing emerges from the sawing sections 4-9, pins 32 on a ring 31 engage and enlarge alternate slits and cause the fins to be bent (as shown in Fig. 7). Alternatively, the pins may engage and bend back the fin on only one side of a slit. Each sawing section comprises four motors 41-44, Fig. 4, each rotating a saw 46 having two blades 47. Screw adjustment means 53 pivotally connected to each section-housing 34 enable the initial angular positions of the saws to be set. The saw blades pass through an arc 59, Fig. 8, in either downhill or uphill cutting. Alternate saws may rotate in opposite directions or at different speeds. The speeds of operation are controlled to prevent flattening of the fins or too much burring. Saws are used having 2 to 8 teeth, of 3¢ to 4 inch diameter, rotated at 860-1800 R.P.M., traversed at 8 to 32 ft./min., and of <SP>1</SP>/ 64 to <SP>1</SP>/ 8 inch thickness and contacting 7 fins each revolution. Average tooth bite is from 0À003 to 0À02 inch.
