<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-weight image display apparatus capable of displaying a high quality stereoscopic image. <P>SOLUTION: An image display apparatus 10 for displaying a stereoscopic image comprises: a display device 2 for displaying a planar image corresponding to a basis of a stereoscopic image; an optical device 4 disposed on a side of a display screen 3 of the display device 2 to oppose the display device 2 and including a plurality of liquid crystal lenses for causing a viewer to visually recognize the planar image as the stereoscopic image; and a light shielding member 6 provided on the optical device 4 on a side thereof closer to the display device 2. The light shielding member 6 includes a plurality of cylindrical members 5 extending from the optical device 4 toward the display device 2 and having open ends, the central axis of each of the cylindrical members 5 is disposed substantially coaxially with the optical axis of each of the liquid crystal lenses, and the axial length of each cylindrical member 5 is substantially equal to a distance between the optical device 4 and the display device 2 or smaller than a focal length of the liquid crystal lens. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
