THERAPEUTIC NUTRIENT COMPOSITION OR COMBINATION AND METHODS OF THEIR USE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide nutrient compositions for improving a mitochondrial function.

SOLUTION: A combination is parenterally delivered to a critically ill patient of mitochondrial dysfunction. The composition comprises a glutamine precursor molecule and an antioxidant in sufficient concentrations to be clinically effective. The combination may be prepared in the absence of lipids or carbohydrates. The combination may be prepared in small volumes to benefit volume restricted patients. The composition or a unit dosage form comprising the combination, and methods of administering the combination, composition or unit dosage form are also provided.
