PURPOSE: A drive test control apparatus of a mobile communication system and method thereof are provided to enable a terminal to optimize service area in a standby mode by periodically measuring wireless channel information. CONSTITUTION: In case a measurement period is not an integer multiple of a discontinuous reception period in the output of a period comparing unit, an analysis and directing unit(1225) matches the measurement period with the discontinuous reception period. The analysis and directing unit controls measurement in all measurement periods matched with the discontinuous reception period. An MDT(Minimization of Drive Test) information measurement unit(1235) measures wireless channel information by using the analysis and directing unit. A buffer(1215) records the wireless channel information measured by the MDT information measurement unit.
