STEROID INTRAOCULAR IMPLANT HAVING EXTENDED SUSTAINED RELEASE FOR PERIOD OF GREATER THAN TWO MONTHS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eye implantable intraocular implant capable of releasing a therapeutic agent at a sustained or controlled rate for an extended period of time with few or no negative side effects.

SOLUTION: The intraocular implant comprises a polymeric layer covering a core containing a steroid, wherein the polymeric layer comprises a plurality of holes sized to pass a liquid and also to pass the steroid from the implant to an external environment at a rate slower than 2 μg/day for a period of time greater than two months after the implant is placed in the eye.
