PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide markers for evaluating genetic potential for marbling in bovine individuals and a method for evaluating the genetic potential for marbling by using the same.

SOLUTION: This method for evaluating the genetic potential for marbling is provided by deciding whether a 718th base in 5' upstream domain in the exon 1 of bovine pantophysin gene varies to A in at least one side allele or not, and in the case that the base varies to the A, the genetic potential for increasing the marbling of such individual is evaluated as higher than that of the bovine individual of which the base is G.
