Disclosed is an illumination device capable of suppressing contact between a thermally expanded light guide plate and the light-emitting elements on a light-emitting substrate, and capable of setting a narrow gap between the light-emitting elements on the light-emitting substrate and the end surfaces of the light guide plate. The disclosed illumination device (12) is provided with: a light guide plate (18); a chassis (14); an elongate main body (171) which, mounted such that multiple light-emitting elements (17a) are spaced apart from and facing the front surface (18c) of the light guide plate (18), is arranged between the front surface (18c) of the light guide plate (18) and the wall (14b) of the chassis (14); and a light-emitting substrate (17) which has a pair of arm units (172e, 172f) each extending from both ends of the main body unit (171) towards the front surface (18c) of the light guide plate (18) and fixed at the respective tips to the front part (85) of the light guide plate (18).
