<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a registration method and a registration system for registering a device with an IC card function on an apparatus by a simple procedure. <P>SOLUTION: A registered device 11, an apparatus 20 for recording a registered identification code in association with a contract target in advance, and a management server 30 for recording a recording contract code corresponding to the contract code in advance are prepared. The communication between the device 11 and the management server 30 is performed through a public communication line, an authentication code with a "true" state is returned to the device 11 by the prescribed procedure, and the authentication code is recorded in the device. The communication between the device 11 and the apparatus 20 is performed, and the device 11 transmits the authentication code and the identification code to the apparatus 20.
