<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which can capture an image at higher resolution in image recording using optical zoom and digital zoom. <P>SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus comprises: an optical system which includes a zoom lens; an acquisition part which acquires lens information including information representing the resolution of the optical system relative to the position of the zoom lens; an imaging sensor which captures a subject image formed through the optical system to output image information; an image processing part which performs digital zoom to electronically enlarge the subject image by performing image processing on the image information outputted from the imaging sensor; and a control part which determines if the zoom lens is positioned at a prescribed position (P1) or not based on the acquired lens information and controls the image processing part to perform the digital zoom for the image information outputted from the imaging sensor when the zoom lens is positioned at the prescribed position (P1) .
