PURPOSE: A vehicle brushless DC electric motor malfunction diagnosis apparatus and a method thereof are provided to immediately inform an abnormal state of a brushless DC electric motor. CONSTITUTION: A counter electromotive force detection part(120) detects counter electromotive force created during rotation of an electric motor. A controller(130) comprises a harmonic wave extractor, a distortion rate calculation part, and a state information providing part. The harmonic wave extractor extracts a harmonic component of the counter electromotive force. The distortion rate calculation part calculates distortion rate of the harmonic component which is extracted by comparing and analyzing extracted harmonic waves and normal harmonic waves. The state information providing part provides state information of a brushless DC electric motor corresponding to the calculated distortion rate to a driver.
