Provided is a magnetic head which is capable of miniaturizing a card insertion portion and which is capable of increasing density of magnetic flux generated from disturbing magnetic field generation means at a position of a magnetic head for skimming at skimming time. A magnetic head (12) of the present invention is provided with disturbing magnetic field generation means (18) for generating a disturbing magnetic field for disturbing reading of magnetic data recorded upon a magnetic stripe. When the magnetic head (12) is disposed in the vicinity of a card receptacle (6), it is possible to change the position of the magnetic head (12) so as to cause thereof to follow the position of a magnetic head for skimming (31) which changes according to the thickness or curvature of a card (2), and therefore, it is possible to change a position at which density is high for magnetic flux generated from the disturbing magnetic field generation means (18) so as to follow the change in position of the magnetic head for skimming (31) at skimming time.
