The present invention provides a method and a device used in acquiring parameters for the general analysis of a protocol and in the general analysis of a protocol. The method includes: acquiring a message to be analysed; performing a holomorphic expression matching on the message to be analysed according to a predefined state jumping table, and acquiring location information about a state number and a character corresponding to a matching rule found out by matching; acquiring a matching rule corresponding to the state number according to a predefined rule pairing table, and outputting a required field according to the matching rule and the location information as well as the buffered message to be analysed, with the matching rule being a start point sub-rule or an end point sub-rule. The embodiments of the present invention can realise a general analysis of protocols.
