The objective of the present invention is to detect any abnormality occurring on a fiber, with reliability. Provided is a fiber laser apparatus (1) that generates a laser beam by guiding excitation light into an optical fiber, wherein the fiber laser apparatus (1) is characterized in comprising: a detection unit (PD50) for detecting leaking signal light, which is signal light leaking out from the core of the fiber; an evaluation unit (control unit (40)) for evaluating that an abnormality has occurred, when the intensity of the leaking signal light detected by the detection unit decreases; and a stopping unit (power supply for driving excitation LD) for stopping the guiding in of excitation light, when the evaluation unit evaluates that an abnormality has occurred.
