<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planetary gear mechanism constituting a planetary gear type reduction gear which is made compact in the radial direction and the axial direction and furthermore has a large reduction gear ratio. <P>SOLUTION: The planetary gear mechanism includes a sun gear 11, an internal gear 13, a planetary gear 16, and a carrier 15. The planetary gear 16 has a first gear part 22 to be meshed with the sun gear 11, and a second gear part 24 to be meshed with the internal gear 13. The planetary gear 16 has a planetary gear unit part 25 for transmitting the rotation between the first gear part 22 and the second gear part 24. The planetary gear unit part 25 includes a sun gear member 26, an internal gear member 29 supported by the carrier 15, a planetary gear member 30, and a carrier member 27 supporting the planetary gear member 30 in a freely rotatable and revolvable manner. The sun gear member 26 is provided on the first gear part 22 side in the power transmission system between the first gear part 22 and the second gear part 24.
