<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of toner for obtaining a toner having favorable storage stability and low temperature fixability by a wet method, and to provide a toner. <P>SOLUTION: The production method of toner includes: a preparation step of resin-coated wax particles; a dispersion liquid preparation step; an aggregation step; and a cleaning step. In the preparation step of resin-coated wax particles, a suspension liquid is prepared by suspending a first wax having a melting point of 85°C or higher, a monomer for forming a thermoplastic resin, and a polymerization initiator in an aqueous medium, and the suspension liquid is heated while stirring to obtain resin-coated wax particles that are particles of the first wax coated with a thermoplastic resin. In the dispersion liquid preparation step, the resin-coated wax particles, binder resin particles, colorant particles and second wax particles having a melting point lower than that of the first wax are dispersed in an aqueous medium to obtain a dispersion liquid.
