<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the display brightness of a reflection type color liquid crystal display element that has two-layer structure. <P>SOLUTION: The reflection type color liquid crystal display element comprises: a first liquid crystal layer in which a first liquid crystal area 36 and a second liquid crystal area 37 are alternately arranged; and a second liquid crystal layer formed on the first liquid crystal layer, in which a third liquid crystal area 38 and a fourth liquid crystal area 39 are arranged alternately. In terms of area per pixel, the first liquid crystal area is greater than the second liquid crystal area, and the third liquid crystal area is greater than the fourth liquid crystal area. The first liquid crystal area overlaps part of the third liquid crystal area and the fourth liquid crystal area. The first liquid crystal area 36 changes in reflectance of light of first wavelength band according to applied voltage. The second liquid crystal area 37 changes in reflectance of light of second wavelength band according to applied voltage. The third liquid crystal area 38 changes in reflectance of light of third wavelength band according to applied voltage. The fourth liquid crystal area 39 changes in reflectance of light of fourth wavelength band according to applied voltage.
