<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single lens reflex camera of compact size and capable of picking up an image with high picture quality. <P>SOLUTION: In a single lens reflex camera, a mirror box 100 for housing a sub-mirror 102 includes a front portion 103a in planar shape extending from a front opening 108a where a light beam having passed through a photographic optical system enters so as to approach an optical axis 50 of the photographic optical system, and a base plate 103 disposed between the sub-mirror and a focal point detection unit 105.
