A gas burner mounted in the floor 4 (Figs. not shown), of a glass-melting furnace comprises a combustion chamber 22 having a restricted outlet 23 and supplied with gas by a plurality of jets 26 arranged in a circle around an air passage 27. The gas jets are directed towards the centre of the combustion chamber. The air flows from an air inlet port 34 to the passage 27 through two annular passages surrounding the combustion chamber and formed by outer and inner walls 13, 14 and a partition 15. The burner is ignited by a spark igniter comprising a sleeve 28 and a centre electrode 29. The igniter is slidably mounted in the burner and the sleeve 28 is flared at its end inside the combustion chamber to serve as an air deflector.</p> |
