<p>The negative pressure generation system (1) of the present invention uses an engine. The engine has: cylinders (7a) - (7d), which have pistons; an intake manifold (5) that supplies air to the cylinders (7a) - (7d); and a fuel supply means that supplies fuel to the cylinders. The negative pressure generation system (1) is equipped with: a negative pressure control valve (15) that controls the negative pressure by controlling the intake from the intake manifold (5) to the aforementioned multiple cylinders (7a) - (7d); a negative pressure supply pipeline (17) connected to the intake manifold (5); a brake booster (13) connected to the negative pressure supply pipeline (17); and an ECU that controls the operation of the negative pressure control valve (15) and the engine. The ECU closes off the manifold (5) by means of the negative pressure control valve (15) and stops the supply of fuel to the cylinders from the fuel injection valve when the engine is operating, thus causing the cylinders to operate as vacuum pumps, generating negative pressure.</p>
