<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state image sensor capable of eliminating insertion of polarization filter for alignment, reducing costs, and acquiring polarization information on a process easy to manufacture. <P>SOLUTION: A solid state image sensor includes a light extraction unit having a pixel including an optical waveguide composed of a core and a cladding, and guides the incident light coming into the pixel to a photoelectric conversion part via the core. The light extraction unit includes at least two units of a first and a second pixels. Each core of the first and the second pixels that constitutes the optical waveguide has a flat cross-sectional configuration and is disposed so that the long axis direction of the core having the flat cross-sectional configuration faces to the different direction, which varies the light-receiving efficiency depending on the polarization state of the incident light coming into the first and the second pixels. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
