<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording method capable of exhibiting a high assist effect substantially uniformly on a frequency region lower than and also for that higher than the ferromagnetic resonant (FMR) frequency of magnetic fine particles constituting a recording layer. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic recording method is provided in which a thin film magnetic head with a sub-coil and the like for generating a magnetic field of a microwave band in the in-plane direction of a magnetic recording medium arranged between a writing magnetic pole part and an auxiliary magnetic pole is used to magnetically record on a recording layer of the magnetic recording medium arranged opposite to the thin film magnetic head. In this method, a microwave spread spectrum signal (SS signal) is applied to the sub-coil or the like, the microwave spread spectrum signal (SS signal) including a ferromagnetic resonant (FMR) frequency of the recording layer as a carrier wave within a band, so as to generate an in-plane high-frequency magnetic field so that a magnetization reversal magnetic field Hsw of the recording layer is lowered.
