Disclosed are a method and device for random access, for achieving random access of user equipment (UE) which aggregate a plurality of cells in an LTE-A system employing carrier aggregation technology. The method includes: determining a subordinate cell configured for a terminal and acquiring related random access parameters configured for the subordinate cell; and sending the related random access parameters to the terminal and enabling the terminal to initiate a random access procedure in the corresponding subordinate cell based on the related random access parameters. The method of the present invention achieves the object that the UE synchronizes with the network side by way of random access in a designated subordinate cell, such that the UE stays uplink synchronized with the network side in the configured subordinate cell, and ensuring the integral performance of the system.
