The igniter (3) has an ignition electrode surrounded by a pressure tight metallic casing (13), and a support structure designed as a ceramic component. A tesla coil is designed as a radial winding, and directly rests upon the ceramic component. The pressure tight metallic casing exhibits a trumpet-like structure for holding the ceramic component. The ceramic component is manufactured by using sintering process. An ignition electrode tip (6) is partially surrounded by a ceramic insulator (5). The casing is filled with noble gas.
