发明名称 Treatment of proteinaceous material to improve the properties without substantially modifying the color
摘要 <p>Proteinaceous materials containing at least 25% by weight of wool are shrinkproofed, proofed against ultra-violet light and colour degradation due to heat and ageing, and given increased wear resistance, bacterial resistance and chemical resistance, by reacting them with 4-acetyl resorcinol having the formula <FORM:1029803/C3/1> or diphenolic acid having the formula <FORM:1029803/C3/2> formaldehyde being present during the reaction when 4-acetyl resorcinol is used and formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, benzaldhyde or propionaldehyde being present during the reaction when diphenolic acid is used. The material treated may be immersed in a solution of the 4-acetyl resorcinol or diphenolic acid and the aldehyde, removed, rinsed with warm water and dried. Using 4-acetyl resorcinol and formaldehyde the treatment may be effected at 37.5-100 DEG C. the treating solution having a pH of 2-9, a 4-acetyl resorcinol concentration of 0.02-0.1 moles per litre and molar ratio of formaldehyde to 4-acetyl resorcinol of from 1:2 to 4:1. Using diphenolic acid and an aldehyde the treatment may be carried out in an aqueous solution of an alcohol, e.g. methanol, ehtanol or isopropanol at 50-100 DEG C., the treating solution having a pH of 2-9, a diphenolic acid of from 1:2 to 4:1. Drying may be effected at temperatures up to 105 DEG C. As a result of the treatment the material may increase in weight by about 20%. The treating solutions may be buffered to the desired pH value by the addition of monosodium phosphate and disodium phosphate.ALSO:Proteinaceous materials containing at least 25% by weight of wool are given increased bacterial resistance by reacting them with 4-acetyl resorcinol having the formula <FORM:1029803/A5-A6/1> or diphenolic acid having the formula <FORM:1029803/A5-A6/2> formaldehyde being present during the-reaction when 4-acetyl resorcinol is used and formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde or propionaldehyde being present during the reaction when diphenolic acid is used. Drying may be effected at temperatures up to 105 DEG C. As a result of the treatment the material may increase in weight by about 20%. The treating solutions may be buffered to the desired pH value by the addition of monosodium phosphate and disodium phosphate. Fabrics, e.g. papermakers' felt, comprising wool alone or at least 25% by weight of wool in admixture with nylon or polester fibres may be treated.ALSO:Proteinaceous materials containing at least 25% by weight of wool, are shrinkproofed, proofed against ultraviolet light and colour degradation due to heat and ageing, and given increased wear resistance, bacterial resistance and chemical resistance, by reacting them with 4-acetyl resorcinol having the formula <FORM:1029803/D1-D2/1> or diphenolic acid having the formula <FORM:1029803/D1-D2/2> formaldehyde being present during the reaction when 4-acetyl resorcinol is used and formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde or propionaldehyde being present during the reaction when diphenolic acid is used.
