1,030,379. Heat exchangers. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Sept. 3, 1964 [Oct.. 21, 1963], No. 36069/64. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger comprises parallel, flatsided tubes 17 between each pair of which is a serpentine heat conductive strip soldered at its bends 23, to the tubes, and providing between the tubes a series of passageways 25, the portions of the strip 21 between the bends being louvred and the louvres 27 project alternately from opposite sides of the strip so that a passage formed by two adjacent strip portions 21 has a cross-section which alternately converges and diverges. The louvres are formed by slitting the planar portion 21 at 29 and bending the metal out of the plane of the strip, the louvres being preferably equidistant with the slits 29 perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the strip portions 21. The arrangement of the louvres allows cooling air, i.e. when the heat exchanger is used as an automobile radiator, to pass from one passage 25 to another and the constrictions set up a high level of turbulence. |
