The turbocharger (10) has a compressor wheel (20) connected with a shaft (18) of a rotor (16) in a torque-proof manner and accommodated in a retaining area (50) of the turbocharger. An outer peripheral area (38) of the shaft is accommodated in a bearing housing (24), and a sealing ring (34) is arranged in the peripheral area between the shaft and the housing. The ring seals the housing and the peripheral area opposite to each other. The shaft has ventilation channels (42, 44, 46, 56) with an outlet opening for guiding air from the retaining area into a close area of the ring.
