<p>A phaser has a housing (1) and a rotor (2) rotating relative to each other. The housing (1) has cavity disposed to be divided by a vane (5) rigidly attached to the rotor (2). The vane (5) divides the cavity into a first chamber (6) and a second chamber (7). The phaser has passages (12, 13) connecting the first and the second chambers (5, 6) and a) a valve (4) disposed to form at least two openings for fluid flowing between the first chamber (6) and the second chamber(7), and being disposed to keep at least one opening closed; and b) at least one by-pass (30, 34, 36) disposed to stop or slow down the rotation between the housing (1) and the rotor(2), thereby allowing a locking mechanism to lock the housing (1) and the rotor (2) together independent of fluid flow.</p> |
