In Fig. 1, an axle 1 attached to a toy is surrounded by a spring 3 of which one end is connected to the axle and the other to a drum 2 rotatable on the axle. A winding element e.g. a string 6 is wound on the drum when the spring 3 is untensioned so that unwinding the string terisions the spring. Fig. 6 shows a car and the spring motor includes gearing with a ratchet drive between the drum and gear wheel 23. A stop 21 on the string 6 may be replaced by another wheeled toy or the parts of the toy may represent e.g. a dog chasing a cat. Further embodiments comprise a rabbit figure on wheels and a monkey which appears to climb the winding string Figs. 2, 3 (not shown).
