The filter unit (11) comprises monolithic ceramic filter element (13) and housing (14). The ceramic filter element is introduced in the housing, where the filter unit is formed as an alternating filter unit for inserting in an exhaust pipe (2). A fixing unit, particularly a collar (17) is provided for fixing the filter unit between an inlet side section (3) and an outlet-side pipe section (4) of the exhaust pipe. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an exhaust gas treatment device for internal combustion engine; and (2) a method for exhaust gas treatment for an internal combustion engine.
