The invention relates to a vacuum cleaner (10) having a housing (11) and a removable dust separation unit (20), which comprises a cover (21) and a cover locking means (23) and which in its mounted state is arranged on the vacuum cleaner (10). The cover locking means (23) can be brought into a first and a second position, wherein in the first position of the cover locking means (23) the cover (21) is fixed on the dust separation unit (20), and in the second position of the cover locking means (23) can be detached from the dust separation unit (20). The vacuum cleaner (10) comprises a limiting means (14) for fixing the cover locking means (23) in the first position, wherein the possible positions of the cover locking means (23) in the mounted state of the dust separation unit (20) are restricted to the first position owing to the limiting means (14). With simple and inexpensive design measures, the present invention provides a vacuum cleaner with a dust separation unit in which incorrect operation of the cover locking means, e.g. during the vacuuming process, can be prevented. In addition, the cover locking means is easy to operate. Furthermore, a sleek construction of the vacuum cleaner, e.g. with no protruding parts, can be achieved.
